Where does the name Sarigerme come from?

According to the official local account, the name is connected with Saricay, the stream that runs through Osmaniye towards the coast. Timber was once moved along the water, and closing the stream’s connection to stop it escaping to sea was called “germe”; Saricay and germe are said to have formed the name Sarigerme.

The same source records ancient Pisilis on this coast and notes that its remains now lie beneath the sand. Sarigerme is therefore more than a beach resort: it has natural and historical layers that reward a slower look.
